The Bible Speaks
04. Jesus Our Savior
Salvation comes in only one way: by receiving Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior.
01. Are there any prophecies in the Old Testament foretelling the revealing of Jesus Christ?
a. Birth
Isaiah 9:6
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
b. Life
Isaiah 53:2
My servant grew up in the LORD’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him.
c. Suffering & Death
Isaiah 53:3-7
3 He was despised and rejected - a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.
4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!
5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all.
7 He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.
d. Resurrection
Zechariah 12:10
“Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died."
Luke 24:46 (New Testament)
And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day."
e. Purpose
Zechariah 13:1
On that day a fountain will be opened for the dynasty of David and for the people of Jerusalem, a fountain to cleanse them from all their sins and impurity.
Matthew 1:21 (New Testament)
"And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
